Check out our helpful university checklist, covering all the things that you may need whether you are in shared accommodation or a private studio (even things you might overlook). Top tip, use this list to help pack and tick off as you go!

Student Items to bring to accommodation

University Kitchen Essentials

  • Cutlery - tea spoons, tablespoons, knives and forks – enough for yourself

  • Crockery - plates, bowls and mugs – enough for yourself

  • Other utensils for example: chopping board, sharp knife, wooden spoon, spatula, cheese grater, potato masher, colander, bottle opener and tin opener

  • Saucepan and frying pans

  • Scissors

  • Baking trays

  • Oven gloves

  • Tupperware containers

  • Washing up liquid and sponge

  • Recipe book - there are some great student recipes you can get for quick easy meals!

  • Lots of snacks - going to university without biscuits is like going to Barbados without a sunhat!

Student Bedroom Musts

  • Duvet and pillows - opt for a higher tog duvet for example, 13.5/15 tog – you’ll thank us later for the tip on those long winter nights!

  • Mattress protector

  • Duvet cover and pillow covers

  • Blankets

  • Laundry bin - doesn’t have to be fancy, a large and strong plastic bag will do!

  • Clothes hangers

  • Alarm clock - key to making sure you don't miss your lectures!

En-suite and Shared Bathroom Items

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

  • Wash bag - especially useful if you’re sharing a bathroom which is a short walk away from your bedroom

  • Body wash

  • Hand soap

  • Shampoo and conditioner

  • Deodorant

  • Razor and shaving foam

  • Towels

  • Hair brush

  • Toilet roll

  • Female hygiene products

Don't forget to look after yourself with these essentials

  • Any personal medications and prescriptions

  • Basic first aid kit for example, pain relief tablets, plasters, cold and flu medication, allergy tablets

  • Details of current GP and doctor’s surgery

  • Glasses and paper prescription

  • Multivitamins

University top tip: if you are a new university student, register with a Leicester doctor’s surgery early as soon as possible. This will save you having to wait for hours at a drop-in centre filling out forms.

Don’t panic if you forget anything after you set off to University there’s plenty of shops to buy bits! If you're a lucky student who’s staying at our property Lillie House or Abode London Road then you’re less than a 30 second walk from Tesco Express!
